KIDAPAWAN CITY (MindaNews / 6 June) – Police arrested on Tuesday a murder suspect from North Cotabato who had been in hiding for 17 years.
The suspect, Faustino C. Gentapan, of Barangay Kisante in Makilala town in North Cotabato was arrested Tuesday at the Davao del Sur Provincial Hospital in Digos City, Davao del Sur, Chief Inspector John Felongco Medel, chief of Makilala police said.
Medel said Gentapan, also known in his barangay as “Osting,” is facing Criminal Case Number 5623-01 for a murder that happened in 2001 in Kisante.
After the alleged murder, he hid in several places before settling in Matin-ao, investigators said.
He was being confined at the hospital at the time of the arrest.
Investigators said Gentapan did not expect the arrest thinking the case was already archived given the length of time that police failed to find him.
Medel, however, said they received a reliable tip from a resident of Matan-ao, Davao del Sur who told them that the suspect was confined at the provincial hospital.
