COTABATO CITY (MindaNews/31 July) – Ten persons were killed when a bomb exploded inside a van around 5:45 am at an Army checkpoint in Barangay Colonia, Lamitan City in Basilan province.
In a text message, Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao Governor Mujiv Hataman said the van driver was among the fatalities.
He said Army soldiers and militiamen flagged down the vehicle but the driver detonated the explosive upon sensing that he would be captured.
A soldier, five militiamen and four civilians were killed. Other people were wounded but their exact number was still unclear.
