DAVAO CITY (MindaNews / 9 Aug) – A fire that broke out at a coastal community noon Thursday razed down some 60 shanties in Barangay 76-A Bucana, Davao City, an official of the Bureau of Fire Protection (BFP) 11 said.
SFO2 Ramil Gillado, officer-in-charge of the Intelligence and Investigation Unit of BFP 11, said that firefighters were alerted around 12:10 p.m. on the fire incident that was caused by an overheated electric fan at the residence of a certain Lovely Toto.
The fire was contained at 1:27 p.m.
But as of 2:30 p.m., Gillado said firemen continue the clearing operation to ensure the fire would no longer re-ignite.
The estimated cost of damage was placed at P630,000, he said.
He said they have yet to determine the number of displaced families who are currently staying at a nearby barangay gymnasium. (Antonio L. Colina IV / MindaNews)
