DAVAO CITY – Police killed a man who allegedly forced himself into the residence of a businessman at the posh Woodridge Park Subdivision in Davao City on Wednesday morning, a report released by the Davao City Police Office (DCPO) said.
DCPO spokesperson Senior Insp. Maria Teresita Gaspan said Harland O. Garvida barged into the house of Allen de Vera and attacked him.
She said de Vera took his Glock 9mm and tried to shoot Garvida but a scuffle between them ensued when the suspect tried to wrest the handgun from the house owner.
The gun fired hitting the family’s 46-year old house help Anna Cecilia Flores who survived with a minor injury in her right shoulder.
De Vera suffered a fracture in his shoulder and other injuries in different parts of his body when he wrestled with the suspect, Gaspan said.
She said the businessman managed to call police for help.
Talomo Police Station commander Chief Insp. Ronald Lao tried to negotiate with the suspect but he resisted arrest.
She said Garvida stabbed Special Weapons and Tactics team member PO3 Junrell Tan in his left arm forcing the policemen to shoot the suspect to immobilize him.
The Davao City Central 911 immediately brought Garvida to the Southern Philippines Medical Center but he was declared dead on arrival. (Antonio L. Colina IV/MindaNews)
