GENERAL SANTOS CITY (MindaNews / 16 Aug) – The Social Security System (SSS) is set to launch another round of inspections on business establishments here in line with its ongoing campaign against delinquent employers.
Redentor Viola, SSS General Santos branch head, said Thursday they assigned a team to check the compliance of local employers to the Social Security Law.
He specifically cited the mandatory registration of workers and proper payment or remittance of their contributions to the agency.
“We have an accounts monitoring system that is being handled by a special section of our branch,” he said in an interview over television program Magandang Umaga South Central Mindanao.
Viola said the team, which is composed of nine personnel, leads the monitoring of delinquent employers.
He said each accounts officer has assigned employers or accounts that they regularly check for compliance to the pension program’s regulations.
Last month, SSS personnel issued show cause orders to nine business establishments here due to non-registration of businesses to SSS, non-remittance of contributions, and non-reporting of employees.
The erring employers were uncovered during surprise inspections in connection with the launching in the area of the agency’s Run After Contribution Evaders (Race) campaign.
The combined delinquencies were worth P443,448.30 and involve around 100 employees, the agency said.
As of Thursday, Viola said eight of the nine establishments have already complied with the show cause orders.
“Because of the Race program, the level of awareness about the matter actually increased, not only with employers but also among workers,” he said.
He said local establishments are becoming prompt in remitting contributions while employees have become more assertive with their rights to SSS membership and its benefits. (MindaNews)
