DAVAO CITY (MindaNews/ 30 Oct) – Police have heightened security at the grave of the parents of President Rodrigo R. Duterte at the city’s Roman Catholic Public Cemetery for his expected visit there.
City police director Chief Supt. Alexander Tagum told reporters in an interview Tuesday that he has already instructed the San Pedro Police Station to deploy police officers before the president’s visit, which is usually unannounced for his security.
Duterte usually visits the grave of his parents, Vicente and Soledad Duterte, during Undas, or the first two days of November each year which Catholics designate as All Saints Day and All Souls Day.
Tagum said additional police personnel would be dispatched during the president’s visit to ensure he can have a solemn time to offer prayers for his departed parents.
“We can provide maximum security coverage to ensure that president will not be bothered by all supporters and fans of our president. We want to ensure that our president can have time with his department parents and prevent any problems during his visit because we expect there would be more supporters who are eager to see our leader,” he said.
He said policemen are securing the grave for 24 hours. Visitors of graves near his parents’ will be strictly monitored, he added. (Antonio L. Colina IV/MindaNews)
