DAVAO CITY (MindaNews/ 26 November) – The driver of a speeding vehicle drowned after missing the access ramp of a ferryboat bound for Davao City at a seaport in Barangay Kinawitnon, Babak District in Island Garden City of Samal, at about 8:30 p.m. on Sunday.
A report released by Police Regional Office 11 identified the driver of the Toyota Innova as Fernando G. Pacaldo, 55, manager of the DTI Overland Transport Corporation, and resident of Sitio Maag, Barangay Peñaplata, IGACOS.
Narciso L. Kho, 29, single, construction worker, and resident of Cagayan de Oro City, who was walking towards the ferryboat with other passengers, was hit by the vehicle, it added.
Initial police investigation said the vehicle was waiting for its turn to board the ferryboat.
The CCTV footage released by the port management Mae Wess Inc. and posted by TV Patrol Southern Mindanao around 2 a.m. Monday on its social media page showed the driver overtook another vehicle and plunged into the sea.
Concerned citizens and responders tried to rescue Pacaldo and Kho.
Kho survived and is now recovering from multiple injuries but Pacaldo was pronounced dead on arrival at the IGCS General Hospital Inc. at 8:51 p.m. (Antonio L. Colina IV/MindaNews)
