COTABATO CITY (MindaNews/ 30 November) – A group engaged in illegal drug trade is believed to be behind the grenade attack at dawn on Friday at the house of a police official in Sultan Kudarat town in Maguindanao.
A fragmentation grenade exploded outside the house of Chief Inspector Esmael Madin at 2am Friday.
No one was hurt but Madin, chief of the Criminal Investigation and Detection Group-Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao for Maguindanao, relocated his family after the incident.
Four hours after the explosion, Madin received a text message saying “patikim pa lang yan (that’s just for an initial taste).”
Unfazed, he responded: “Yung patikim mo, walang lasa (that was bland).”
He surmised the suspect or suspects could have come from one of the groups hurt by a series of recent law enforcement operations.
Around 8am on Friday, he received a text message threatening him of another attack.
“Soon the investigation zeroes in to this suspect, then he will have a taste of our response too,” he said.
He added the entire CIDG-ARMM received threats after their aggressive operations in the past weeks where several criminals were arrested and various firearms and drugs were confiscated. (Ferdinandh B. Cabrera/MindaNews)
