COTABATO CITY ( MindaNews / 12 May) – Two explosions rocked this city late Sunday night, a few hours before the mid-term election starts at 6 a.m. on Monday but no one was hurt.
Police Lieutenant Teofisto Ferrer, Jr. of City Police Precint 2, said the blasts occurred at around 10:30 Sunday evening.
He said initial investigation showed that two explosions were from what is “believed to be a 40mm mortar fired by unknown persons using an M-79 grenade launcher tube.”
No one was hurt in the explosion just outside the fence of the right wing of the City Hall compound in Purok Omar, Malagapas, Rosary Heights 10.
Ferrer said they have yet to determine if the explosion was election-related.
Cotabato City had earlier been placed under the control of the Commission on Elections (Comelec) due to intense political rivalry. (Ferdinandh L. Cabrera /MindaNews)
