DAVAO CITY (MindaNews / 01 June) – An alleged illegal recruiter was arrested in an entrapment operation at 4:15 p.m. on Friday in Davao City, Police Maj. Milgrace C. Driz, Criminal Investigation and Detection Group (CIDG)-Davao City head, said.
In a report released on Friday evening, Driz said joint forces of the Criminal Investigation and Detection Group (CIDG) and San Pedro Police Station arrested 33-year old Aisha Manayaga Shaikh, married and a resident of Ciudad de Esperanza, Cabantian, Davao City, after receiving the marked money from the applicants who were promised employment overseas.
Driz said Shaikh was not authorized by the Philippine Overseas Employment Administration (POEA) to recruit and receive money for the processing of documents of overseas job applicants.
Authorities recovered from the suspect’s possession marked money worth P15,000 and three Philippine passports of the complainants.
Shaikh, who is temporarily detained at the San Pedro Police Station, will be facing charges for violation of Republic Act 8042, as amended by R.A. 10022, otherwise known as the “Migrant Workers and overseas Filipino Act.”
“We have the mandate to strengthen the implementation of the law for the protection and promotion of the welfare of our migrant workers, their families and overseas Filipino in distress and help in the enforcement of the Labor Code of the Philippines,” Driz said.
She warned the public to be cautious in dealing with individuals who are offering employment abroad to avoid falling prey to illegal recruiters. (Antonio L. Colina IV / MindaNews)
