DAVAO CITY (MindaNews / 01 June) – A magnitude 6.1 earthquake struck Govenor Generoso town in Davao Oriental at around 5:43 p.m. Saturday, a day after a magnitude 6.2 quake hit the same town at 6:12 p.m. Friday, the Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (Phivolcs) said.
In its Earthquake Information No. 1 released at 5:55 p.m., Phivolcs said the quake was of tectonic origin with epicenter at 119 km southeast of Governor Generoso, with depth of focus at 80 kilometers. On Friday, the epicenter was 92 kms southeast of Governor Generoso, 76 kms. Deep.
Like Friday’s quake, Phivolcs expected no damage but noted that aftershocks may occur.
Phivolcs said the quake was felt as Intensity V in Mati City, Intensity IV in Alabel, Sarangani; Intensity III in General Santos, Kiamba and Sarangani and Intensity I in Bislig. (MindaNews)
