DAVAO CITY (MindaNews/09 July) – A contributor to MindaNews’ Batang Mindanaw section is one of 22 foreign nationals chosen as finalists for this year’s Village Story Competition in Thailand.
Alexandria Mangaron Mordeno, of Malaybalay City in Bukidnon, will compete with 22 Thai writers and 21 other finalists from the Philippines, Japan, Singapore, United Kingdom, Russia, Nepal, India, Colombia, Bhutan, Israel, Italy, Ukraine, Egypt, Australia, Austria, Nigeria, Malaysia and Indonesia.
Another Filipina, Shalom Bless, also qualified to the competition sponsored by the Tourism Authority of Thailand, Department of Cultural Promotion, Thailand’s Ministry of Culture, Thai Airways, Thai Smile and README.ME.
The competition runs from July 24-29 and requires the finalists to produce photos, video clips and an article on their assigned village.
Mordeno, a Political Science student at MSU-IIT, is assigned to document daily life in the Sapphaya Old Police Station Market Community in Chai Nat town, capital of Chai Nat province in central Thailand.
According to thailandvillageacademy.com, “The Village Story is a new campaign inviting travel story curators from around the world to explore some of Thailand’s most amazing villages for free – with cash and other prizes worth 10,000 USD going to the winning participants who create the best content.”
“The Village Story has selected 22 incredible villages across Thailand that pride themselves on their rich culture, fascinating history and unique traditions,” the website added.
The winners will be announced in an awarding ceremony on July 31 in Bangkok. (MindaNews)
