KIDAPAWAN CITY (MindaNews / 31 August) — Operatives of the Cotabato Police Provincial Office (CPPO) and jail guards confiscated a number of bladed weapons and mobile phones at the North Cotabato District Jail (NCDJ) here.
CPPO director, Col. Maximo Layugan on Friday said inmates at the NCDJ were surprised when his men and personnel from the Bureau of Jail Management and Penology (BJMP) and operatives of the Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency (PDEA) Region 12 swooped down on their cells at around 5 a.m. on Wednesday.
Confiscated from the inmates, he said, were several sharp and deadly bladed weapons, one to two feet-long steel bars, and mobile phones, but failed to find illegal drugs inside the prison facility.
The NCDJ is the biggest jail facility in North Cotabato.
Layugan said the surprise greyhound operations, dubbed “Oplan Galugad”, was aimed at making the facility drug-cleared, as mandated by President Duterte.
“This won’t be the last. We will continue to conduct operations such as this,” Layugan said. (Malu Cadelina-Manar / MindaNews)
