KIDAPAWAN CITY (MindaNews / 23 September) – Authorities are looking at possibilities that the killing on Sunday of the village chief in Barangay Kayaga, Kabacan in North Cotabato was work-related.
Killed was barangay chai Bong Calamba Baccana, 43, who was also a quarry operator.
Police Lt. Col. Bernard Tayong, deputy chief for operations of the Cotabato Provincial Police Office (CPPO), hinted there could be individuals or groups hurt when Baccana implemented in his area the programs, projects, and campaigns of the government, including road clearing operations and fight against illegal drugs.
Reports said Baccana and his quarry workers were having a meeting just outside the barangay hall when the armed suspects arrived at the place and immediately fired at them.
Baccana died on the spot while three of his workers suffered gunshot wounds: Uwaw Matikayan, Tatuan Kalantingan, and Tagani Tapulid.
Meantime, authorities also do not discount the possibility the killing could be due to Pacana’s personal grudge with an acquaintance or a group.
Pacana is the second village executive killed in Kabacan town this month.
Last week, unidentified gunmen shot dead the chair of Barangay Lower Paatan inside his house. (Malu Cadelina-Manar / MindaNews)
