KIDAPAWAN CITY (MindaNews / 11 November) – After the powerful quakes, a hailstorm.
Makeshift tents in some evacuation camps along or near the national highway in Makilala, North Cotabato collapsed due to a hailstorm at around 3;30 p.m. prompting government to relocate the evacuees (bakwits).
Ating Vice Governor Shirlyn Macasarte Villanueva announced through her Facebook post that they were preparing to “relocate our evacuees affected by the storm.”
She cited the affected evacuation camps as Santos Land, Makilala Institute of Science and Technology, Poblacion elementary school and Saguing evacuation centers.
Villanueva also announced through her FB page that displaced residents in the Santos Land evacuation camp will be transferred to Makilala High School.
“We are setting up 100 inflatable tents donated by Mayor Marcy of Marikina. Setting up 30 DSWD tents for Makilala Elem School as well. Preparing clothes, blankets and malong based sa stocks na available. Salamat sa mg nag donate ug banig and habol” (Thank you o those who donated mats and blanket), Villanueva said.
Several netizens posted photos and video clips of the storm.
Ra Zel Epulac posted on her Facebook wall photos of tents that were destroyed or thrown serveral meters away. Some belongings were also blown away by strong winds.
Kaye Llenado also posted that the hailstorm left their belonging, including their blankets and clothes, wet.
On Nescy Jazmin’s FB wall were images of small ice balls or hailstones that dropped on their tents at the evacuation site. (Malu Cadelina-Manar / MindaNews)
