KIDAPAWAN CITY (MindaNews / 28 Jan) – Authorities nabbed four suspected drug couriers and seized from them at least 200 grams of dried marijuana leaves in two separate anti-drug operations here on Monday, reports said.
Jinx Abad, information officer of the Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency (PDEA) in Region-12, said two of the suspects were minors—aged 16 and 17—who were placed under custody of the Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD).
Abad said that as a rule, these minors are set to undergo assessment by the DSWD to determine their level of discernment when they committed such offense.
Abad explained these minors were rescued from the operation they launched against a drug syndicate whose main product is marijuana.
Abad said they seized from the minors 42 sachets of dried marijuana leaves that weighed 180 grams valued at P21,600. These sachets, she added, were placed in a recycled LBC package.
The minors, whom Abad refused to identify, were caught placing the drugs in small sachets, which they set to deliver to a number of clients.
The drugs, she added, came from Carmen town in North Cotabato.
They were apprehended inside their hideout along Plaridel Street at the Poblacion around 3:25 p.m. Monday.
Hours later, the PDEA-12 operatives, together with elements from the Kidapawan City PNP, arrested two other suspected drug couriers at Saint Therese Village in Barangay Sudapin.
Abad identified them as Rey Tyron Espiritu Sarte and Ignacio Meljihon Javier Abracia, both residents of Saint Therese at Purok-9 in Barangay Sudapin.
Seized from them were sachets of dried marijuana leaves that weighed 20 grams amounting to P2,400.
Abad said the suspects were working for a big drug syndicate operating in the city, whose supplies of illegal drugs primarily come from Carmen town.
“We already have the list of those behind the syndicate but we refuse to name them because it might derail our continuing surveillance and monitoring operations against them,” she said. (Malu Cadelina Manar / MindaNews)
