DAVAO CITY (MindaNews/17 January) – A police trainee died a day after he was rushed to the Metro Davao Medical and Research Center (MDMRC) when he collapsed due to heat stroke during a road run on Thursday afternoon at Sun City in Barangay Communal, Davao City.
In a report released Saturday, Police Regional Office (PRO) 11 director BGen. Filmore B. Escobal identified the trainee as Patrolman Angelo M. Tito.
Escobal said Tito collapsed with four other trainees identified as Dexter A. Bucaling, Juvanny E Saydaw, Exel E Busalla and Fraxsidicio II D Florentino during the training, which is part of the Basic Internal Security Operation Course.
All five trainees were all brought to Camp Quintin Merecido Medical Hospital (CQMMH), he said.
Saydaw was discharged after receiving treatment from CQMMH. Bucaling and Tito were referred to MDMRC and Florentino and Busalia to Southern Philippines Medical Center.
Except for Tito who succumbed to sinus tachycardia secondary to severe dehydration or heat stroke, Escobal said all other patients are now stable.
He said the PRO would provide assistance to the police trainees who were still recovering.
He vowed to look into the possible lapses by trainers in handling the training course, which was conducted to enhance the skills of the police in counter-insurgency operations.
But he claimed all trainees went through a medical examination and were declared fit to undergo the training course. (Antonio L. Colina IV/MindaNews)
