KIDAPAWAN CITY (MindaNews / 11 January) — Authorities are looking at work-related circumstances as the strongest motive behind the killing on Friday of a state auditor in Cotabato City, the city’s police chief said.
Colonel Portia Manalad, Cotabato City police director, said that based on their initial investigations, the killing of 60-year old Quiara Bagundang-Akmad had something to do with her job as an auditor assigned in Maguindanao province.
Manalad, however, declined to give additional details.
Akmad, according to reports from the Cotabato City Police Office, was on board a white car driven by her husband, a former police officer assigned at the Police Regional Office in the now defunct Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao, when the suspect pumped bullets on different parts of her body at around 11 a.m. on Friday.
The gunman, according to Manalad, was already on standby when Akmad’s car turned along Avelina Street, just few meters away from the City Mall.
After he confirmed that his target was inside the vehicle, he fired several bullets and immediately fled the crime scene, Manalad said.
Manalad said Akmad’s husband was able to return fire but it was not clear if he hit the gunman.
The husband immediately rushed his wife to the Cotabato Regional and Medical Center where she was declared dead. (Malu Cadelina-Manar / MindaNews)
