ILIGAN CITY (MindaNews / 20 February) – This city’s public market in Pala-o will get a facelift after the local government allotted P590 million for a new building there.
The project was awarded to BM Marketing as the lowest bidder and will be completed in 18 months, City Mayor Celso Regencia said during the groundbreaking ceremony on Thursday.
Regencia said the budget will come not from a loan from the city’s savings.
The mayor signed the notice to proceed after the groundbreaking rites in the presence of BM Marketing representative Mark Tiu.
Councilor Ian Uy, chair of the infrastructure committee of the city council said the project is a two-story building with roof deck with a total floor area of 2,218 square meters.
Uy said 80 percent of the workforce will come from Iligan while the technical team will come from BM Marketing.
He said Palao Market was built in 1960 in a 9,735-square meter lot donated by the Laya family to the city government.
The vendors were temporarily relocated at the newly constructed market within the Iligan Bus and Jeepney Terminal Complex in barangay Tambo. (Richel V. Umel/MindaNews)
