Zubiri tests positive anew for COVID-19

DAVAO CITY (MindaNews / 27 July) – Senate Majority Leader Juan Miguel Zubiri, who survived COVID-19 in March, failed to attend President Rodrigo Duterte’s fifth State of the Nation Address at the House of Representatives in Quezon City on Monday as the legislator tested positive anew.

Four months ago, on March 16, the Mindanawon Senator from Bukidnon announced that he tested positive for COVID-19 after he was exposed to a COVID-19 patient in the Senate. He was asymptomatic.

On Monday, July 27, Zubiri posted on his Facebook that he tested negative in three rapid tests “but possessing antibodies with positive IGg.”

He said his swab test “showed that I was positive once more for COVID-19.”

“According to doctors, it is possible that the test detected remnants of the dead virus cells in my body as I am a COVID survivor. So I decided to forgo any other appointments and head back to my isolation room for quarantine,” Zubiri said.

The senator added that he had himself swabbed again at the Philippine Red Cross on Monday afternoon “just for confirmation and I’m hoping that it’s a negative result there to confirm what our infectious disease experts told me earlier.”

Zubiri is asymptomatic again in July, as he was in mid-March.

He said he feels “absolutely fine” and that he has not manifested any symptoms of COVID-19.

“But it’s better to be safe and to keep everyone safe from this virus. And I will continue to work from isolation virtually until i get my consecutive negative results after quarantine,” he said. (MindaNews)
