ZAMBOANGA CITY (MindaNews / 01 December) — Over 50 fishermen in Basilan province joined a fluvial parade along Basilan Strait on Wednesday morning to express support to the tandem of Vice President Leni Robredo and Senator Francisco Pangilinan in the 2022 elections.
Ivie Creon Ragay, Leni Para Sa Lahat Basilan focal person said the fishermen agreed to sail along Basilan waters for at least an hour while displaying white tarpaulins marked with “Leni 2022 Kiko” in pink paint.
Robredo has assisted the same fishermen through a livelihood program especially during the pandemic, Samy Jaani, one of the fishermen who participated in the fluvial parade, said.
Jaani said he believes the Vice President has more concern for the plight of fishermen.
Some boats sailed along the coastal waters of Isabela City as volunteers of Dapat Si Leni Basilan-Youth prepared the tarpaulins that were handed to the fishermen.
In an interview, Dr. Anton Mari Lim, a volunteer for Robredo’s campaign group based in Zamboanga City said the fluvial parade was a sequel to the move on November 26, when the two organizations jointly distributed tarpaulins, stickers, ribbons and tee-shirts to 200 tricycle drivers around Isabela City.
He said these people had expressed their support for Robredo even before she decided to run for the presidency.
Willard Tagbart, president of the Tricycle Driver Striker Association said the Vice President helped them when they experienced economic difficulties due to the pandemic. (Frencie Carreon/MindaNews)
