There is no truth to the information circulating on Facebook that Lanao del Sur, including the capital Marawi City, imposed a curfew from 10 p.m. to 4 a.m. as an offshoot of the ambush on the convoy of Governor Mamintal Adiong, Jr. over the weekend.
The official Facebook page of the Provincial Government of Lanao del Sur dismissed the post as false news. https://www.facebook.com/PIO.LanaoDelSur/posts/pfbid0cnXwyJiRSFXTsaen5MhkDJUc1TRoWrjNktn5NUFWpNgMjk18ka8PytZ7aCV7AR8ul
“Hindi po totoo ang kumakalat na balita na may curfew sa Marawi City at buong lalawigan ng Lanao del Sur mula 10:00PM hanggang 4:00AM (The news that there is curfew in Marawi City and the entire province of Lanao del Sur from 10 p.m. to 4 a.m. is not true),” it said.
“There is no truth to this rumor circulating now. Please be guided accordingly and help stop this false news by sharing this post. For widest dissemination of this information,” it added.
The FB page Provincial Government of Lanao del Sur is maintained by the Provincial Information Office.
The false information about the curfew in Lanao del Sur was posted at the Facebook page Viral Maranao.
It has been taken down but shared by some individual Facebook users.
The fake news cited Jordan Lagyaban Bongat, Maguing municipal police station chief, as declaring the curfew period.
“Therefore, during that time, you are not allowed to go out. Buong (The whole) Marawi and Lanao Sur. For information and guidance. Thank you,” the fake post added.
Jennie Tamano, Lanao del Sur information officer, clarified that the curfew is implemented only in Maguing town and not in other parts of the province.
“There is no curfew in LDS (Lanao del Sur) and Marawi City. But the COP (chief of police) of (the) municipality of Maguing declared a 10 p.m. – 4 a.m. curfew,” she told MindaNews thru Facebook Messenger.
Tamano confirmed that Bongat is the Maguing police chief, with a rank of captain.
Last Friday, gunmen ambushed the convoy of Lanao del Sur Gov. Mamintal Adiong, Jr. while traversing Maguing town.
Adiong was wounded but four of his security escorts died in the attack. An aide of the governor was also wounded.
The governor has already been declared out of danger by attending physicians.
