Unresolved issues over the draft Bangsamoro Basic Law have recently raised concern among Moro communities across Mindanao that violence may erupt should the government and the Moro Islamic Liberation Front (MILF) fail to settle these issues.
The peace panels of the Philippine government (GPH) and the MILF peace panels which started negotiating in 1997 and signed the Comprehensive Agreement on the Bangsamoro on March 27, 2014, have met thrice in July and are in the midst of a ten-day meeting in Davao City (August 1 to 10) to come up with a “mutually acceptable” draft Bangsamoro Basic Law that would be submitted to Congress for legislation.
